Unit 6 discussion question

This unit deals with the topic of stress... something that's probably all to familiar to most of us.
Here are some questions to consider as we begin the unit:
  • What are some of the tools you typically use to deal with stress? (Hint: I'm hoping to add to my own collection of strategies here!)
  • Did you teach yourself these strategies or did you pick them up somewhere else? Why do you think they're effective?
  • And sometimes, even if we have a collection of tools we use to cope with stress, nothing seems to work. Why do you think this is?
  • Finally, do you think stress is more prevalent within a certain age group? Share your thoughts... which age group may be more susceptible to stress? Why do you think this is so? Any ideas about avoiding the trend?

Tools i use is just having a clear mind to deal with the sressful situations at hand. I learned this technique on my own. I found that having a million different things on my mind while trying to deal with one situation was not only hard , but increased my stress extreamely. I think stress comes in many different areas in life which makes it hard to always cope. I believe you can't always conquer stress because sometimes theres really nothing you can do in some stressful situations. Stress I believe comes with every age group. Children have stresses in school, adults with work and elders with retierment! Stress comes with everything!

some ways i deal with stress are to go for a walk and try to clear my mind. also screaming in to a pillow helps to. i think that everyone one has stress no matter how old a person is. every one deals with it.i think that in some cases stress is not easily gotten rid of. sometimes to "stress out" is the only answer.

Whenever I am stressed out, I turn to my music, and try to put on more positive sounds, for my emotions can easily be swayed by music. I believe I picked this up all on my own, and I say listen to positive music because I will more likely end up with a positive attitude. Most of the time, music helps, but there are those times where the stress level is so high, it just doesn't work. I also believe stress is involved with every single age group. Kids/Teens in School, Adults with their careers and family, and older ppl with their retirement plans and things.

Some tools I use to help deal with stress is to exercise and or listening to music can sometimes calms me.
These strategies just came to me... but I do think they're effective. I think the exercise helps your blood flow and your breathing so it kinda calms me.
Occasionally something will stress me out really bad to the point where nothing helps. I think this occurs because I have bad anxiety.
I think everyone has some stress at some point or another because I even notice it in my parents coming home from work.. and my step brother from his school work.

The tools I use to help me deal with stress is going to the gym, listening to music and riding my horses. Thesze activities usually help me focus on the situation at hand instead of the millions of different thoughts that usually go through my head when I'm stressed. I think everone has stress; no matter the age, gender, whatever. Stress is a part of life theres nothing we can do about that. All we CAN do is figure out whats the best way to deal with it

When im stressed i try to do something i think is fun to take my mind off of what im stressed about. I might play a game with my sister or go see a movie, something to help me relax. Im not the type of person who likes to sit and do nothing, so doing things like taking a bath doesn't help me relieve stress. I think working out at the gym or at practice helps me relieve stress. I also love to sleep, i find i get stressed out more easily if i don't get enough sleep at night. I think any age group can be stressed, its just usually about completely different stuff. Kids get stressed over big games or test, adults get stressed over job issues or buying a house. I think planning time in your day to just do something you think is fun to help you relax can help you avoid stress.

I don't really use "tools", whenever I start getting stressed, I just sit down and relax and try to plan out some steps to follow to make whatever I'm doing less stressfull. I tought myself to do this, I found that if I just take my time doing something then it becomes less stressfull for me as well as the person i'm working with or something. I think its effective because it just makes sense, because if you rush something then everything becomes tense and you can get annoyed easily, which in turn makes you more stressed out. I don't think a cetainage group get more stressed I think it the environment that a group is in which can make people stressed. Like at school or at work. Or even when you wake up late for an appointment, or something.

I deal with stress through listening to music, dancing, exercising, and communicating with people. Sometimes none of these work because you cant listen to music(like at work) and you cant dance at work(haha i sometimes do anyway)and you dont want to exercise of your really tired, and a lot of times communicating with people is hard for me because i need time to calm which is seen as the silent treatment but i just need to collect my thoughts.and stress is least prevalent with children and old aged people. and teens deal with stresses of learning new things, and going through new experiences.adults go through a lot of financial stresses as well as making their marriage work and trying to raise children.

I get stressed out a lot! I've learned the for me, the best way to deal with it is to get away from it. Then I can approach whatever decision or problem after I clear my head and think it through. When I'm stressed at home, I take my horses and leave for a couple days. Even just driving by myself for a couple hours lets me relax and come up with solutions to help me deal with my stress. Everyone gets overwhelmed and stressed out at some point. In my house, stress is contageous!

Tools i use for dealing with stress are sports, when I play sports I can focus on the sport I'm playing and not what stresses me out. Stress is everywhere what makes it different is how people deal with it. Stress with age.... is really rather a foolish question... Stress appears in all parts of your life, unless you are Bush, in which even though you are losing a war, and have a 29% approval rating... and you still don't worry about it, thats when stress doesn't effect you.

For stress i usually try to involve my self with something i like to try to get my mind off of whats causing the stress. My strategy usually works for me. I think Adults have more stressful lives because they have more responsibilities then kids/teenagers, and more things that can cause them stress.

The main tool I use to counter stress is without a doubt my computer. Anytime I'm having a bad day I'll just hop on ventrilo and start talking with friends I have all over the world. I think adults are more stressful because they feel they always need to be doing things perfect.

the maian tool i use to deal with stress is listenting to music. i love music so i always listen to it when im doing homework or if i had a long day. it helps releave the stress and keep me calm. And if music doesnt work then i read. I like reading because i can lose myself in a book like, i just relax and really get into the book, which makes me forget about the problem i was having.

Stress is a part of life no matter how old you are. Young children stress as well as their elders. stress is something that comes natural and you cant really hide from. A few ways ive learned to deal with stress is to listen to music, dance, take a hot bath, hang out with friends, communicate about it. I think communicating is ne of the best tools you can use for releasing stress. If you keep things bottled up in you, it can turn ugly. i know that when i am stressed i often tend to take it out on other people and thats not fai to them. If something is really bothering you and you are stressing about it, its obviously worth it to talk to someone about it rather than keeping it in and something eventually bad happening.

Everyone deals with stress in their life no matter what and everyone has their own way of dealing with it. I listen to music. Music is my output. It relaxes me and keeps me calm. I picked this up myself. I've always been a huge music person and I've found ways to make it benefit me. I don't think their is a certain age group that has more stress than another.

There are a wide variety of things I do when Im stressed, particularly music. If im upset I either listen to things that will brighten my mood or go with the mood I'm in, the way I look at it is, it's not food that way, im not gaining weight or stressing out over food, plus it has me calmer and more peaceful state of mind.
I read a book, drink some tea or even make myself some cereal if im aggravated.

I learned strategies on my own and google :D!!!

aha. if I dont have the awnser im sure google will have it!

Stress has no "age-group" but the way I see it, the older you get the more the stress and obligiations.

I think when you turn 18 this is a time when you are really stressed out, you are still trying to find who you are, what you are going to do with your life, matter a fact Getting A Life and stressing out by what you are gonna be doing for the time being.

hmm. in my personal opinion,we can find many ways to make stress more managable by doing thing things below:

* take a walk
*drink tea
*call a friend
*play with a pet
*listen to music
*watch a comedy show or movie
*take a nap
*read a interesting book
*play a video game

etc,etc

When I feel that I am about to get really stressed out I try to just take a few deep breaths and relax and think of something else other then what I get frustrated about. I had thought of this technique on my own. I also think that music can clear your head as well. I think this technique can work if someone can have patience to not get themselves worked up and frustrated. Sometimes all techniques don't work. Why? I think because it depends on the person dealing with it and the way they use a certain technique.

Usually my biggest sources of stress are tests. In school I get very nervous while taking tests and this usually blocks me from thinking clearly during them. This year I learned a new method to deal with my anxiety on tests with the help of my math teacher. I came to her when my test anxiety started to effect my grades. We decided that having something to chew on our suck on like a mint can often times take your mind off of the test. So that really helped with my anxiety, the mint and knowing my teacher was there to support me. In everyday life when I have frustration and stress I usually write about it or listen to music; or even better both!

I think the age of 17 through 23 are really stressful years because that is when we need to really get our acts together. Society forces us to choose our life plan with college and what and how we are going to study. Most people have a large expectation to live up to and in most of these situations there are so many variable and the outcome is out of our control.

I do have a lot of stress but i try to turn it around fast so i don't get anxiety from it. I think the best way to deal with stress is to concur what ever it is u are stressing about like homework or going to work so its out of your way and you don't have to stress anymore.

Wow, there are some great responses here. I'd like to focus my attention on Destiny's post and her list of stress-reducers. These are excellent, Destiny! I'm writing them down! I also found it interesting that so many of you turn to music. It's truly amazing how powerful music can be. I've always listened to music to help reduce stress, and one thing I've discovered is how great PLAYING music is for helping to reduce stress. I play the guitar, poorly, but I still play, and started playing the drums this year. If I would have to choose between guitar, piano, and drums, the drums are going to be my first pick because of how physical they are. It's great !!

Yes, the ages of 17 through 23 can be quite stressful, but as Destiny pointed out, the older you get, the more it piles on. Fortunately, hopefully, as we age, we learn how to better manage our stress. It's a work in progress.

Hmm, I honestly don't think I deal with stress all that well. I get really calm and try not to show it but I always end up looking rude or something. I just let everything build up and I'm going crazy inside while I look fine to others. I think I acquired these alone, but sometimes I actually look for characteristics in people that I think are wrong and try to do the opposite. Even though we all have our coping mechanisms, some events in life are just too crazy to handle; personally, I don't think those events are meant to be coped with and just accepted and we should learn from them. I don't think there's any way we can avoid stress; it happens to everyone. Also, I don't think it comes in "trends"; every age group has their own types of stress, it only differs.

Some of the ways i deal with stress is by , not letting things get to me.Yea there will be sometimes when i will stress and there is nothing i can do about it. Some I picked up from my family. They all work really well. Sometimes stress just happens and there is nothing we can do about it. I think stress can happen more between the ages of 15 to adult hood.

When I'm stressed out I turn up the music full blast and just let it take my emotions away. I also find that sometimes getting away by myself to clear my mind really helps me cope with stress. When I'm by water it helps me relax, like if I just go sit on the beach I'll come back feeling way better, I think its because I'm a Pisces so being around water soothes me.
I feel like you least stress when your a young child because you don't have any worries, your pretty much in your parents hands. But as you get older you take on more responsibilities and the stress just comes.

When I find myself in a stressful situation something that works for me is to go to the gym and workout until i feel more relaxed. This gives me a chance to calm down and think about what i should do. I believe that every age group has their own stressful circumstances and preoccupations that come along with growing up. Their are always things that can help us cope with stress in our own way.

Some of the tools I use to deal with stress are, I'll take a deep breath, Listen to music,or go out. I tought myself this strategies. I think they are effective because I've tried all of them an they've helped me. I think that sometimes everything we use to cope with stress might not work because we might have more than one problem at the same time. I think stress is more prevalant within teenagers because we start getting more than one responsibilities. Ways in which you can avoid the trend is by going out or listenig to music.

Stress is something everyone goes through no matter at what age. The way i cope with stress is by either going to the gym, talking to someone, or just chillin and listening to music. I think by communicating and talking to someone about it is a good idea rather than keeping it in and having to stress about it even more.

I play one of the most stressful sports around, GOLF! I dont really know how i learn to cope with stress, i just try and remember past situation where i was successful. I believe that people who are stressed out are the people who are getting ready to make a life altering discissions no matter their age. There is no sure way to cancel stress overall, but if your never stressed you aren't living so deal with it.

I usually just try and take a break from whatever is stressing me out. Just pause and take some deep breaths and think about the situation. Sometimes I go to the gym and work out or I play my guitar. I think they're effective because they get my mind off of what is stressing me out, and helps release all the anger inside me. I think sometimes they don't work because the stress is just too much to get your mind off, and you just have to deal with it. I believe that stress is more prevalent in your late teens/early twenties. You have a lot going on in your life at that time.

When I start to get stressed out I just take a step back and go do something fun with my friends. This works for me because I don't like to think about negative things and for the most part I am always happy and smiling :)Sometimes no matter what I do I'm just stressed out, I think that is because thats life and nothing is perfect. I think from like age 10 to the day you die is the most prevalent to stress.

When im in a stressful situation i like to go to the gym and forget about everything on the outside and just foucus on what you are doing. I believe that stress is a common feeling for alot of people. Even tho stress is not always bad i would like to keep mine to a minimum.
