Unit 5 Reflection

Imagine that you are a candidate for a desirable job. Your personality is going to be assessed by a psychologist. What method (or methods) that you've studied in this unit would you prefer that she or he use... tell us why.
Also, can you think of one more reason why personality traits may not be accurately revealed by interviews? Discuss your thoughts here.

I would personally rather she or he to ues an unstructured interview. I say this because it would be less stressful and let your true personality come out not a rehearsed answer. Personality traits may not be accurately revealed in interviews because some people break under presure causing them to be nervous and not their real selves.

i would rather he or she use a structured interview . i think that it would be easier than an unstructured interview because it may be hard to carry on a conversation or interview while running out of things to say. while with a structured interview there are auto-matic questions to be answered.

I have no preference when it comes to which interview method I'd like best.. I also think that personality traits CAN be accurately revealed in interviews because if you're nervous and feel a lot of pressure and that's something the employer sees. They're going to know not to hire you because one day it's going to be busy and the new employee won't be able to handle it.

I believe an unstructured interview would be best. There isn't as much pressure on yourself, and it's alot easier to be yourself. But even while being interviewed, not your whole personality is gonna come out. Your true personality comes out when your at home, or when your out and about with friends or at work and such.

if i was being analyzed i would just be totally honest and try to stay relaxed. the person assessing me probably knows a lot more about psychology than i and could tell if i was putting on an act.
but still, some people are totally sick and can fool you because theyre comulsive liars or lead double lives, or are bipolar!thats a scary decease

Structured or unstructured? I have been through both, and don't have a preference. I just stay relaxed and be myself. And I think that's what the person interviewing you in the job wants; for you to just be yourself so they can best assess if you are what they're looking for.

I don't think it matters what type of interview is being conducted. If you get nervous during job interviews i don't think it will matter wether its structured or not. I think depending on if you get nervous or not will determine how well you personality shows in an interview.

I would prefer he or she to use a structured interview because I prefer eveyrthing I do to have structure or a guidline. I think I have a strong enough personality to where no metter which method they decide to use, my personality would shine through. so either way I think, personality traits can be accuratly determined.

I agree in full with Nathan. Unstructured interviews as the pressure levels are way down in that situation. Also in agreement with Nathan that your true personality comes out when your in an environment that you are used to.

i think an unstructured interview would be much better, if theirs less pressure on you then you can talk freely and openly, and i think someones true personality comes out when they aren't worried about trying to say the right thing.

Once again I completely agree with Brittany. I don't think someone should be fake in an interview just so they can get the job. And the interviewer has to know that almost everyone he interviews is going to be well rehearsed just so they can get the job.

i totaly agree with what Brittany said an unstructured interview would definitly be the way to go. No pressure or stress adde don to the interview.

i would have to just be myself. Theres no need to try and fool anyone in this world. there will always be the fakes out there, but if they cant be themselves around people, they aren't happy with themselves in the first place. Always be yourself and people will learn to like you for who you are.

I also agree with many of you. I think an unstructured interview would have way less nervousness and feel more relaxed for many people. Its just way easier for someone to just be themselves and not have a script to memorize in their head while on an interview. I think also that your real personality comes out when your at home and probably won't when your on an interview.

I think i'd love it if a psychologist used a structured method for using on an interview, that way you can get a feel for how the individual is, manybe by the way they awnser it. Of course many of their awnsers are neither here nor there, they can't be "wrong" or "right" and don't get everyone so tense in these situations, I myself believe I can make a pretty good case in whatever questions they ask me because my personality will most defintely show in this case =]

And to awnser your further question, a psychologist might not be able to get a feel for your personality because they aren't all very well thought out to begin with...for example if you asked me " describe yourself in five words" i would go blank, i have more than just a small set of personality traits and I wouldnt just have 5. They really don't give you a figure for who I am, how I am as a person. Which in fact will lead you to thinking I have no idea who I am when in fact I very much well do so.

So all in all no, numbered questions that are asked to just about anyone aren't going to show at all who I am, personality wise or just as a human being

A structured interview would probably be my best bet to get the job... But I also think that tests such as situational tests are the most telling as to the persons true personality, like on those hidden camera shows; you can really see people's true colors when you put them in stressful situations and observe them without them knowing.

I think I would like my personality to be assessed with a questionnaire. I believe that this is a pretty accurate way to find out about someone's personality and see if they are what you're looking for pertaining to the job.

I think an unstructured interview would be best because it is less pressure and nerve racking and i tend to freeze up when i am on the spot.
I don't think during an interview your true personality shows because your not sure what they are looking for.

I would want then to use an unstructured interview because, i would want them to know my true personality. I wouldnt want to to be all serious about it. I would want to be loose and stress free.

I would rather he/she use an unstructured interview because it would make me personally feel more comfortable, instead of having to critical think right there on the spot about a certain question. I would want my interview to just go with the flow so I wouldn't get nervous and mess it up Lol.

I dont perfer any type of interview they use on me. Im comfortable enough with my personality not to try and munipulate a test. If this is there perfession they should know how to test my personality.

I would do better with a unstructured interview because this way you can have a free flowing conversation. This will give them a chance to see the real you and gives you a better chance at receiving the job. It is a casual opportunity in which you can express your good qualities and skills.

I agree with Brittney. You have to just be yourself and thats when people will see who the real you is. If you can't be yourself around people, then it's just going to make things complicated. This way you will have a better chance at getting the job.

I think that it would be best to have an interview in an environment that's comfortable. Instead of being in an office, dressed nice and trying to talk professional, go out paint balling or play some football. You may hurt the person who is interviewing you or they might hurt you, but that's the best way for them to see the real you, not the fake staged you.

I would just be myself because if you get the job their going to see your true personality come out. It would be a lot less stressful if your just honest and act yourself.

An unstructured interview would work best, I think. It would be easier to just have a conversation with the interviewer. I wouldn't have to worry about having a canned answer or something. I could just be myself.

I would rather the psychologist use not such a ruled and organized way to interview me. just ask me questions that pop in there head and maybe have a couple written down. I hate when job interviewers have all there questions written down and they write a response to what you say after every question. Its like wow? am i being evaluated into a psh. ward?

I would feel more comfortable with an unstructured interview. I think my personality and humor really comes out when people just talk to me, not when they are anaylizing me.

I would like a unstructured interview because it allows you to be your self and not being able to put a fake personality on. I think interviews are a successful way to determine what kind of personality you are because its all about what emotion you put into your answer.
