Unit 5 discussion question

Check out the Gary Larson "The Far Side" cartoon on p. 380. What is the author suggesting about personality types?
Do you think that we have any control over our own personality types? Why do you think psychologists think it's important to study the topic of personality and how it relates to behavior?
How would you describe your own personality? Do you think others agree or disagree with your self-assessment?

I think he's suggesting that everyone see's things differently. I believe we have control of our personalities, its all how you look at and deals with things. Its important to study this because then it may be easier to figure out why people do what they do, good or bad. I would describe my personality as loyal, honest, and most of all caring. Well I sure hope others wouldn't disagree with my self image. If they do then they haven't seen the real me.

I think that the author is suggesting that we all see things differently. I think that we all have control over our types of personality. Psychologists should study about this because it helps people understand other people more. i would describe my personality as outrageous, caring, and honest. i think others would agree with my self-assessment because when i tried to come up with things i used things that my friends would say.

I think the author is saying that everyone sees things from their own point of view. I believe we have control over character not personality.

He is suggesting that everyone has their own views on things. I believe we have some control over ourselves to a certain extent, but we cant really stop ourselves from being ourselves. Psychologists find it important to study personalities and how it relates to behavior because people who seem to come off angry, for example, often have a bd personality. I believe my own personality is hard to describe. I am a good person none the less, but I find it difficult to make decisions, and I believe everyone I know would agree to that.

the author is suggesting that people's personality types can effect their interpretation of things.

we dont have control over our personality, it comes from our brain, an organ in which we can not alter. thus i dont think people can change.

my personality? well my thoughts tend to drift off and ill space out, so my friends think im random.

i DO NOT think im intimidating at all, and yet people tell me i am, as well as having a strong personality and being confident.i dont see any of that, im actually pretty self aware. i try to be friendly and approachable.

and people tell me im smart, i dont know if that because im actually intelligent or because i look down on ignorant people and refuse to be one of them.

I think that he's suggesting that everone see's things differently. I believe that we have a certain amount of control over our personalities but not all. I think that the environment that you live in has a lot to do with how your personality is and thats something that you can't control the first part of your life.

I think the author is illustrating the different ways people see things. I think that we have control over our personalities. After all we choose to be mean or nice or to think positively or negatively. I think its important to study personality and how it relates to behavior because it can help us understand why people behave goodly or badly. I think my personality is outgoing. I like to make friends and i wouldn't talk badly about someone behind their back. I try to be respectful of others.

The author might be suggestiong that different people, see things differently or that different people react to a situtaion differently. It it possible that we all have control of our personality types to some extent. Psychologist probably think its important to study personality becuase it gives them insight on how different people hand things or think about things differently.
Because personality goes hand in hand with our behavior. I'm not sure how i would describe my own personality. I know that I have a very hard time trusting anybody, but I am very trustworthy. Some people i know do agree with what I just wrote and I also know that most people strongly disagree.

It appears to me that hes suggesting everyone has their own view of things, however they may or may not be able to control them. Its important to study these aspects of life to understand what people are thinking and why they do what they do, may it be something good or something bad. To describe myself i would say; outgoing, loyal, and funny.

the author is showing that people think differently. I think people have control over their personalities , people are what they want to be, psychologists what to know the relation between personality and behavior, i would describe my self as dependable, honest, and trustworthy, i think my friends would agree with my self assessment.

I'm pretty sure it's been said by just about everyone who has responded to this. The author is showing how everyone see's things differently. I'm going to have to disagree with Chelsey. I do believe people can change. People changing heavily relies on what outside influences there are around them. I've seen people's personalities change in an instant when money factors into whatever is going on.

i think that we have a little control over our personalities only because the way you act is the way you are and the way you are seen. What i really think is that psychologists really should study this topic because i am sure people want to know why they act the way they do.

i think the other is explaining that we all see things differently which i totally agree with. No two people are the same and everyone is going to have their own view on things. I have to agree with chelsea, personality is not something we can just change. It is who we are and if people cant except you than thats too bad. Your friends and family will always love you for who you are and thats all that matters. I often get told i am very intimidating as well and i honestly do not think i am. I am just a very confident, fun, loving person.

I believe Gary Larson's cartoon is showing we all have a mind of our, with opinion's,awnsers, etc etc. We obviously dont always say the things people think were going say. That's what makes us interesting. I think we can have control of our personalities but it's like an impulse, it's just the way were programmed.
It's interesting to psychologists because they want to know why others have traits that others have and some not so much. It get's interesting rather because not one person thinks like another individual does, which makes us "individual's and also so "unique" . The psychologists also get a look at our brains and how we tick. So it's a win win, we all get a sense of how we are , personality wise and they get facts about personalities all together. I would have to say my personality is very bubbly, somewhat ditzy, with a witty intelligence at it's peak. I can be ignorant and immature at times but I know when to be serious and to act my age, it all depends on the situation/environment at hand.
I think I totally can relate and agree with the self assessment test so well, it does come to a big conclusion about me and myself.

I think he is showing that we have our own different personalities on different things we each see. I think we do have control over our own personalities because our personalities is based on how we act and deal with things. Its important for psychologists to study this because it will help many people understand their own personalities and why it relates to our behavior. I think my personality would be kind, honest, and easy to get along with. I hope people can agree with my self image.

I think the saying is the glass half empty or full is tired, I don't believe that we can just be divided into two categories: Pessimists or optimists. Everyone can be either depend on the time and place; I know I can. i think most people would agree, that we are all different at different time. My friends just laugh when people think I am quiet or shy, because they know i am loco, but in some settings i suppose i could be demure.

Well he says that the four people represent four basic personality types. I interpret the types as optimistic, pessimistic, indecisive, and rebellious. I think we learn personality at an early age, mostly from parents, and it's really difficult to try and have control over your personality after developing one. I think psychologists believe it's important to study personality because without knowing why people act the way they do everyone would be misunderstood. I would say that I'm really outgoing and nice, especially when first meeting people. I'm trustworthy and the kind of friends that everyone can count on, especially in times of need. For the most part, I would say that my friends would probably agree with my assessment.

I think the author is suggesting that everyone has a different perspectives on life. I don't think we have to much control with our personality types were born the way we are. its important for psychologist to study personality because it may help with behavior. I would describe my personality pretty laid back and easy to get along with. Agree.

I think that we might have some control , but not much. It all depends on how you look at things and handle them. I think thats how we can control some part of are personalities. I think psychologist want to study that so they know how to handle it. They need to know what to say. I think my personality is very up bringing. I am always happy, never really in a bad mood. I would have to say i am happy go lucky. No i would have to say most people wouldnt disagree.

I think the author is suggesting that everyones personality differs and we all have our own personal views/opinions. I believe that most of us have control of our personalites but some people don't. I have a friend who is bi-polar and sometimes she can't control how she acts when she gets mad, sad, frustrated, etc. I would describe my personality as straight up, funny because I hate being all serious, loyal, respectful (when respect is given), very hard-headed, and I sometimes come off rude to people if I don't know you but no hard feelings because I just always have my gaurd up but I'm nice one you get to know me I promise :)

The cartoon is saying that everyone sees situations differently thats what creates personality.
I believe that your personality isn't what you make it but what your peers see so it is really uncontrolable.
I think that I am a very competitive person when it comes to my sports but I also think that im a reasonable nice guy and that i am approachable and comfortable to be around. If my friends think differently than i am open to what my personality really is.

The author mostly is implying that we all have our own unique point of view different to that of other people. We all have some degree of control over the kind of person we are and can choose to change our personality if necessary. If we study behavior we will gain a better understanding of why we act the way we do. I consider myself as a straight forward, independent, honest person. I know that the people who really know me would agree with that.

I think that the author is suggesting that we all see things differently and it's important to study this to find out why people do the things they do. They want to know how our act and thoughts relate to one another. I would describe my personality as caring, honest, funny, friendly and outgoing.

The author is saying that everyone has their own perception on the way people act. Everybody has more than one side of personality to them, whether it's shyness or if you are an extrovert. someone who is an outgoing person can still find themselves shy in some cases. Being able to understand personality is important because it helps understand poeple in general. if everyone studied psychology I think the world would be different. I would describe my personality as an extrovert even though people know me as a quiet kid. Only the people i'm with everyday see the extrovert side of me.

The author is saying that people's personalities makes them interpret things differently than others. I think its possible to have control over your own personality. The more we know about personality, the more we know about why we do what we do. I would like to think that I am honest, forgiving, and caring. I hope people think that way of me.

The author is suggesting that there are different types of personalities, and each type precieves things differently. I beleive your personality type is formed in the way you are raised and your enviorment, so I am not sure if you can control your personality type. Psychologists think it is important to to study the topic of personality and how it relates to behavior, because it explains how and why we act the way we do. I am an honest person so i would have to admitt that I'm a "extrovert", and my friends would agree.

The author is trying to say that everyone has different ways at looking at things. Not everyone one is the same.I would describe my personality as fun, relaxed, and determined to get what i need done.
