Unit Seven Reflection

Okay, now that you' ve finished the unit about psychological disorders, and you've read the other students' responses to this issue, what can you take away with you? Specifically, how do you think that the issue of psychological disorders pertains to teenagers' lives in particular? Have you learned anything in this unit that will enhance your perspective on anxiety, mood disorders, personality disorders, etc., in the future?
And what does the word "crazy" mean to you now?

I think that by reading this chapter I can better understand the reason why people have certain disorders and it can help teenagers understand the reasons also. Everything I've read has enhanced my perspective about axiety, mood disorders, personality disorders, etc. And now the term crazy means the same thing as it did before.

After redaing this chapter I've realized that things like stress and anxiety are truly unhealthy and that even though they are sometime unavoidable, it's important to deal with stress rather than ignore it and let it build up. Unhealthy stress and anxiety can contribute to depression or even some of the disorders covered in this chapter.

This chapter has really opened my eyes to many of the psychological disorders. I think that the issue of psychological disorders pertain to teenagers lives in paticular mainly because there are teens that are dealing with these issues and don't know the signs so they prorbably don't know they have anything. This whole unit has enhanced my perspective on anxiety, mood disorders, etc.

Ok, I'll bite. First off from reading the questions you ask it seems like there is one general answer that you want. This section has enhanced my outlook on stress axiety etc. and how to deal with it. Crazy for me is still someone that can't understand the basic concepts of life.

Well, Kevin's comment made me think... though we're trying to guide the discussion with our prompts, we want you to use the question as a springboard. For example, Kevin, HOW did this section enhance your outlook on stress and anxiety, and HOW do you define the basic concepts of life?
No right or wrong answer here-- just fodder for discussion!

.....honestly, because of people ive delt with all my life who have severe psychological disorders i already knew a lot about them, and one thing a text book cant teach you is personal experience, what it did do though is just organize all that and put it into scientific terms.

i understand psychological disorders a lot more then i did before reading this unit and reading the only blog posts. I think teenagers are exposed to people with disorders or might have them themselves. Crazy still means the same to me.

This unit definitely expanded my knowledge about psychological disorders and what they break down to. I think when a teenager comes across people that have these disorders they may rethink the term crazy. For me, however, the definitions remain the same.

i think this is my favorite unit so far. the explanation of disorders and how people get them and handle them is very interesting.

After reading this chapter, I have learned many new things about mental disorders and everything else throughout the chapter. I think psychological disorders opens up more to a teenager about it and how it can pertain to teenagers.

Psychological disorders are a very touchy subject in many places and hard to learn about in everyday life. For this reason is why I found this chapter very interesting, because I was learning new things about a topic I was curious about and also find our answers to questions I may have been too scared to ask. After reading this chapter I understand better how normality is in the eye of the beholder but also how very common mental disorders are. I think this section was good in the way it displayed symptoms and diagnosis along with explaining how prevalent things such as depression are and how it is not a shameful thing to have, and that those who think they may have it or are at high risk should not be scared to seek help.

I already knew a lot about psychological disorders from dealing with people with these disorders in the past. I think this helps teenagers understand a little better of what some cases are like, But know one really knows till they have witnessed it...Every disorder i read about i learned more then i already new. The word crazy still has the same meaning as it always did.

To us teenagers, I think we can relate greatly to stress and anxiety, but only a select few can truly say that they know what psychological disorders are and what they mean. A few have bipolar disease, which I believe is a pretty common disorder. Others have stress related anxiety whether it comes to either sports or schoolwork. As for the word "crazy", I will probably still use the term as I did before, but from now on I will think about what it really means when I do use it. Now, I can better understand the lives of those people affected by these mental disorders.

After reading the chapter I noticed that some of the symptoms from the disorders my own friends and family have. I liked reading about them because now I know the signs of anxiety and other disorders. These disorders pretain to teenagers because many probably have some sort of disorder but don't know they have it, therefore don't know how to cope with the symptoms. And crazy to me still pretty much means the same. I've used the term in many different ways.

Psychological disorders pertains to teenagers because when we can get depressed when a gruop of girls or guys dont like you or want to hang out with you. We might get anxiety when something bad happens and dont know how to tell are parents. Most of the disorders can pertain to teenagers.

Well, from this chapter the thing that really stuck with me is that a lot of these disorders start from infancy. This means that children and teenagers have to deal with these kinds of things all the time. I have learned much about these disorders and the effects they have on the people. My definition of crazy hasn't changed much.
