Unit Two discussion question

Do you consider yourself a certain kind of learner? How so? Why do you think psychologists consider it important to study the brain and how it relates to our ability to learn?

I would consider myself more of a visual learner. I say this because if I'am told something i will most likely forget as to seeing it, which helps me understand it better. I think psychologist find it important to study the brain and how it relates to our ability to learn because they can find out new and better ways to teach students and people all around the world.

I think i am a visual learner. i am more likely to remeber someones face then there names. I think it is important for psychologist to study and learn more about the brain so other ways of learning can be taught.

I most definately have to either read or physically do somehing to learn it. Just having it explained to me, usually isn't enough. People have different ways of learning and there are various techniques of teaching. Psychologists want to know which ways are more effective and how the brain absorbs the material.

For me, it's most like Katie's comment. Having something explained to me ain't going to get it done. I need to read it myself, and then do it--in pedagogical terms that would be labeled as "practical application" or "guided practice"--but the key part is the visual part. Every sport I've learned or played, whether it was as a little kid, a high school student, or in college, I always benefitted the most from watching the examples, watching those who were skilled.

I am more of a hands on learner. Meaning, like katie, I have to physically do something or see it to completely learn and understand that concept. Just having an oral explaination isn't going to cut it. I believe that psychologists find it important to study the brain and how it relates to our ability to learn so that they can find different teaching methods that help people that learn differnetly

Okay, how about this... I think of myself as a visual learner and a kinesthetic one. For example, if I'm trying to learn something new on horseback, it helps me to watch my trainer do it first so I have the right picture in my head. Then, I give it a shot with Ruby, my awesome mare. Of course, she has ideas of her own, so it takes tons of practice until I have that muscle memory that means I've learned it on a deeper level (like Katie said about "absorbing the material").
It works academically, too... I come at school from all kinds of angles (I think my students already know this!) until we find something that works. I'm glad psychologists are helping explain all this interesting behavior for us.

I'd consider myself a visual or more hands on type learner. I don't remember names very well, but I usually remember peoples faces.
I think psychologists consider it important to study the brain and how it relates to our ability to learn so they can use new information to help people with a learning problem etc.

I consider myself a visual learner. I find that its easier to remember thing if i can look at it or touch it. I think its important to study the brain so that school can learn to teach to all types of learners.

i think im more of a visual learner. if i hear something it mostly goes in one ear and out the other. psychologist probably find it importand to study the brain so that they can learn more about why a person does things.

Everyone has their own way of learning. Mine happens to be hand-on learning. In order for me to learn something, I have to actually do it with supervision to make sure I'm doing it right, and the supervisor showing me every step. Not everyone learns this way though, which has psychologists thinking, why doesn't everyone learn like this?

I'm not entirely sure how I learn. I learn better listening to a teacher lecture and explain than doing a worksheet and taking notes. I learn better when I can see or touch what I'm learning about, text books and essays do nothing for me. Psychologists consider it important to study the brain and how it relates to our ability to learn because if they can figure that out then they can adapt certain teaching methods to certain types of learners and the world will be a smarter place.

For me to learn things i have to be shown how to do it and be shown examples and shown several different ways to solve a problem. then i decide for myself the best way i can do it. in classes i would always figure out my own way to do something and the teachers wouldn't accept the work because it wasn't how they taught it. i believe psychologists think it is important to study ways that people learn in order to change classes for people becoming teachers. teachers need to be able to teach in a way that the majority of people can learn easier.

I consider myself to be a more hands on type of learner. For Example when i play hockey, though someone may tell me on how to do something different i feel that the more i do it the better i can do it insted of just seeing it on paper. I am one who thinks that psychologist find it important to staudy the brain and how it works to better help us use it to its full potential.

I like what Kevin said about how studying psychology might help us reach our full potential... not a bad goal, at all!

I consider myself a visual learner, give me a full page of words and ill most likely mix something up, give me sets of pictures and ill usually do much better. i think psychologists study the brain because they want answers on how we think and act.

The best learning environment for me is hands on. Putting things together and having to figure something out on your own is my type of learning. It's important because a person can be evaluated and put in the learning environment that best suits them.

I would definitly consider myself a visual learner because, pictures and colors catch my attention, so i want to look at what is going on. I believe psychologist find it important to research the brain and how it relates to our abilities to learn because they are always trying to the most logical way to teach and inform people of information.

I would most deffinately consider myself a visual learner. Kinda scary seeing as im on independent studies but i seem to do just fine. I find it much easier for me to learn something when it is being done in front of me rather than me trying to figure it out on my own.

I can more than agree I am an auditory learner. I love to talk rather than write and relish the opportunity to discuss what I've heard. I can verbally discuss everything I've learned compared to writing it. I am not the only one. Which is a reason why psycholigists love to get thorough facts about our brains. Everyone learns things more differently than the next, psychologists NEED alternatives to pin point how each and every one of our brains works. They do various tests to get a closer look and get more knowledgable each and everyday. The same goes for teachers and students, we all learn and comprehend different so we must have more than one way of how to explain terms than just one in general.

I think i would consider myself a word for word learner and a visual learner because i can learn more when i read about what im going to learn.I can also be visual learner because it can be easy to remeber what i see and to learn from pictures or imagery.I think it is important for psychologists to study the brain and learn more from so that people who read about it can alos more and find out new things.

I have a better time understanding something when I read and figure it out myself which is an advantage for me being on independent studies. Although, I do find it helpful when someone explains it to me but I do just as good figuring it out for myself. I think psychologists consider it important to study the brain and its ability to learn because then they have a better understanding of the brain itself and why it is able to do some of the things it does and why.

For me, I need to listen to some one explain something and also read about it, or look at it. Research on this topic is important so that we can better understand how to improve schools and help people better understand things outside the class room.

I suppose I consider myself a learner of repetition. The more I see and hear things over and over again, the better I can remember it and it will soon become second nature. I think the study of the brain is important because there are so many different parts and components that make up the brain and it's important to know exactly which part is being stimulated during specific though. This is something I, also, am interested in.

I think I am more of a visual and independent learner. I feel I am a visual learner because I understand the concept easily by visually being taught. It's also hard for me to concentrate and I get distracted easily so I work better by myself rather then in groups.
I think it is important for psychologists to study and learn about the brain so they can help the different types of learners obtain knowledge.

I find it interesting that you all seem to have a pretty good grasp of how you learn... I'm thinking that bodes well for the decisions you'll be making in your future, in school and/or with work.

I would consider my self a hands on-visual learner. I can NOT sit in a class room and listen to a teacher word for word and take verbal instructions(easily distracted =). I'm the kind of person who needs to read it myself and figure it out as i go. I think psychologist find it important to study the brain and how it relates to our ability to learn because teaching with different methods can help others who learn best hands on , or in different surroundings.

I am definintely a visual and physical learner. I like to interact and discuss things one on one and actually see all angles of an equation or question and i want to know why things are the way they are. Thats why i dont believe in one school system because peole like to learn different ways to learn. nobody is the same.

I think i'm a visual and independent worker. I think I learn better when i'm alone rather than being in groups.

I think that it depends on what i am learning that will define the best way i could learn it. But, over all, i think like a lot of people here, i am a hands on learner. I can memorize things and understand better if i work with it. I need to physically act in order to better learn the material.

If i said I was a visual learner then I would be like everyone on here. So yea i'm a visual learner but I also have a creative mind that allows me to invision something while I read it. I view visual learning as something you get while working on a car. Sure you can read a manual and look at step by step pictures, but actually getting your hands dirty is the best way to learn.

I think I am a visual learner. If somebody simply shows me a picture of how something is to be done, I could usually figure it out and do it. I don't need to read a bunch of words to learn something. I think that psychologists consider it important to study the brain and how it relates to our ability to learn because it could help improve how people are taught in the future. They could find ways that more people easily understand and ways for them to retain that information easier.

I would say im more of a visual learner, i need to see it or physically do something to learn it or else it doesn't really grab my attention and i don't remember. I think psychologist find it important to study the brain and how it relates to our ability to learn so they can figure out different ways to teach those who learn differently.

I also consider myself to be a visual learner.I'm very good at remembering faces, places, street signs, etc. I think psychologists consider it important to study the brain and how it relates to our ability to learn because it proves how we function in life.

I think I learn best when listening and taking notes. If I'm writing it down and seeing what I'm writing, I can remember it easily. It's important for psychologists to study the brain and how we learn so they can understand how we memorize information the most efficiently.

I agree with Mr.mac because i have also been in sports my whole life and if you learn from your teammates by visual learning you can make your self a better player by learning from the mistakes or hardwork.

I consider myself a visual learner. I CANNOT stand long lectures in school i feel there unimportant completely, at least in my eyes. I think i get more of what a teacher is saying when they use examples and past experiences to get there point across. I feel psychologists consider it important to study the brain because it has everything to do with what we do, when we do it, what we think is right, and why we think its right.
